To grow up all around Asia, where there is rapes, murders, roberies, major persecution, etc. is way different than growing up in America. Yes, in America there still is all of those things, but not to the extent that they are in other countries around the world.
As Emilie came back to America to visit friends and family after living in Asia with her parents, she thought that it was a much safer place than Asia. She never even dreamed that there would be rapes, murders, roberies, major persecution, etc. She thought she was totally safe and could relax, not be so shy and scared all the time like she usually was.
Emilie that summer went to a Christian camp with her friends, she had never gone to a camp like this before, but was very excited. It was in a different state, it would take her 17hrs on a bus to get there. She didn't think anything of it, she thought it would be perfectly safe and nothing could possibly happen. She was having an amazing time at camp, but little did she know that was all going to come to an end quickly. She was walking up the stairs and down the hall to her room, when suddenly a guy grabbed her quickly, left the door open, threw her on the bed, started to remove her clothes, and was going to have his way with her. As she was screaming and squirming, her friend heard her as he was coming up the stairs and down the hall. He quickly went running to see what was going on, and when he did, he beat the guy up, and quickly grabbed Emilie. He didn't know what to do after that, or how to act around her, what to say to make her feel better, etc.
Emilie went home from camp a few days later, still struggeling and having a hard time with what happened. All Emilie could think of was, "What if he had actually followed through with his plan? Then what would this be like?". She learned then and there that she had to always been on her guard in America, just as she had to always be on her guard there in Asia.
Emilie has since then been raped twice, and these were not just attempts. The men who planned to do such a thing to her, actually were able to follow through with their plans.
No matter where you are in the world, girls, be on your guard. Anything can happen any where.
